Students from Lee County High School not only participated but also secured positions in the Congressional App Challenge. They represented NC District 9 in the #HouseofCode event on April 11th in the U.S. Capitol in Washington DC. Their innovative application not only showcased their exceptional skills in technology and programming but also highlighted the importance of STEM education in shaping future leaders. As a nationwide competition encouraging students to pursue careers in STEM and computer science, artificial intelligence presents an opportunity to empower a broader audience to engage in coding. Their work will also be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

We had a total of 24 students from Lee Senior and Southern Lee attend a Newcomer field trip on April 10th. The Newcomer Group Abriendo Puertas focuses on acculturation to their new country and this trip was a small part of that. Throughout the school year, we hold monthly sessions where we talk about how they have processed the transition to the US. We provide them a safe space to grieve the loss of their home country while discussing the differences and challenges they have in their first year of high school.

Thank you to Representative John Sauls for visiting Lee County High School today for the Second Annual "Bring Your Legislator to School" Day. We are grateful for his visit and his support of the students and staff in our district.
