The Yellow Jackets also recorded their highest academic growth in more than a decade while increasing student proficiency by 5.3% – a strong sign of the momentum building across campus.

🎉 FIVE TO ZERO! A Historic Academic Turnaround for Lee County Schools
Lee County Schools is celebrating a major milestone as NCDPI released School Performance Grades today: all 14 graded schools improved, and the district now has ZERO schools designated as low-performing! 👏🎉
Just one year ago, five schools carried that designation. Today, all five have exited - making LCS one of just 24 public school districts in our state with no low-performing schools, and the only district in the Sandhills region to reach zero.
The progress goes even further:
📈 Six schools improved by at least one full letter grade.
⭐ 11 of 14 graded schools met or exceeded expected academic growth.
🚀 East Lee Middle School gained 14 points overall - the district’s largest increase.
🎓 The district’s graduation rate reached 89.2%, higher than the statewide rate.
These results reflect the dedication of students, teachers, staff, administrators, and families across Lee County. While this is an important milestone, the work continues in each of our local public schools.

Student leaders at J. Glenn Edwards had the honor of cutting the ribbon to officially open the new 12-classroom pod at Edwards Elementary, which will be called “The Academy,” and creates even more space for students to learn, grow, collaborate, and dream big.
This moment in held in front of school, civic leaders, and classmates is about more than a new learning space. It is about putting students first and investing in the opportunities they need to thrive today and prepare for tomorrow.

With just 15 employees, this team keeps 17 campuses running, completes construction and renovation projects, responds to hundreds of work orders, and tackles preventative maintenance - all while helping the district save money.
From preparing the new Classroom Pod at J. Glenn Edwards to building storage sheds, renovating office spaces, and catching small problems before they become expensive repairs, their work makes a big difference for students and staff.

Tuesday night was a busy night at the Lee County Board of Education Meeting!
We were honored to swear in two new members, David Smoak and Laura Stryffler. They join the Board following the passing of Marcus Mason and the departure of Eric Davidson, who has begun serving as a County Commissioner. Mr. Davidson was also honored for his dedicated service to the Lee County Schools and the community, and the Board wished him well in his new role.
If that was not enough excitement, the CHAMPIONS were in the house as the 2026 6A State Baseball Champions from Southern Lee were recognized for their historic run to the school’s first NCHSAA-sanctioned state title in team sports.
We are proud of the many things going on in Lee County Schools and are grateful for those serving to help lay the foundation for all students in our county to grow and thrive!
