Lee County Schools will be fully CLOSED tomorrow, February 2, 2026 for a good old-fashioned snow day.

Please see the note from Dr. Chris Dossenbach.

"Dear families,
Days like today don't come often for us. It is a reminder that learning also happens in moments of joy, wonder and play. So stay warm, be safe and let kids be kids - sled, laugh and soak it all in. School will be back soon enough so go enjoy a good old-fashioned snow day!

Lee County Schools will be closed tomorrow (2/2/2026) for students and staff.

With gratitude,
Chris Dossenbach"

You heard it from Dr. Dossenbach! No school tomorrow! Go have a blast!

Students should hold onto the remote work packets that were sent home on Friday in case they are needed later in the week, but they do not need to complete them for tomorrow! Stay safe & make some great memories!

With another winter storm and extremely cold temperatures forecasted for this weekend, our schools are once again preparing for the possibility of remote instruction next week. As a precaution for an extended local impact from snowfall, teachers are sending home remote learning packets today in case weather conditions require a shift to remote instruction next week.

If remote instruction is needed, there will be no live classes, and assignments will not be due until five days after our return to campus. Work will focus on reinforcing previously taught skills and concepts. Families are encouraged to allow students to work in short, manageable chunks of time while enjoying the snow and time with family.

Again, no decisions have been made at this time. We are closely monitoring the weather, and when decisions are made, they will be shared on our website, social media, and through all local media outlets. Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep students safe and learning.

We've all heard the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child." Educating students requires all of us. Today, we spotlight school social workers, who play a vital role in supporting the whole child.

By partnering with families and connecting students to community resources such as counseling services, health care, housing assistance, and food support, they help remove barriers to learning and promote stability, resilience, and success. We are grateful for the compassionate professionals in our local public schools who ensure students have the support that they need, both in school and beyond.

Highlighting social workers that help students thrive

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose words and actions continue to call us toward justice, equity, and service to others.

Dr. King reminded us, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." His message challenges us to reflect on our shared responsibility to create inclusive, respectful, and supportive communities ... especially within our schools.

On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we reaffirm our commitment to educating students not only academically, but also as compassionate citizens who understand the power of empathy, courage, and standing up for what is right. We hold this commitment, not just because students who can 'walk a mile in another's shoes' are prepared to thrive ... they are poised to bring a community along with them.

January is School Board Appreciation Month! We are proud to recognize and thank our dedicated Board of Education members. Their leadership, service, and commitment to students, staff, and community helps make our schools a place where students can thrive.

Our board members serve with integrity and purpose, helping guide the future of our district by ensuring strong governance, fiscal responsibility, and student-centered decision-making. Their work often happens behind the scenes, yet the impact is felt in every classroom, school, and program across our district.

On behalf of the whole district, we extend our appreciation to our board members for the time, care, and thoughtful leadership they provide year-round. Thank you for serving our schools and our community!

Meet the Staff Monday | Debbie Eller - Tramway Elementary

For Debbie Eller, kindergarten is about more than learning letters and numbers - it's about building relationships that last a lifetime. Since joining Tramway Elementary School in 2020, Eller has become known as the "Smartie Queen," a champion of kindness through her classroom "bucket fillers," and a teacher whose students - yes, even her former "COVID babies" - still come back to visit years later.

"I hope the kids know they can always come back to me," Eller shared. From leadership lessons on the carpet to showing up for students at soccer games and dance recitals, she believes that relationships truly matter in learning. Get to know the heart behind the classroom and why Debbie Eller says teaching at Tramway is all about community.

Debbie Eller Meet the Staff Monday recognition.
Early literacy instruction is the bedrock of future learning success. When students build strong reading, writing, and language skills in their earliest years, they gain the tools needed to think critically, communicate effectively, and access learning across every subject area.

At Lee County Schools, we are invested heavily in high-quality, intentional early literacy instruction today - not just to prepare students for the next grade level - but for long-term academic achievement and lifelong learning. Strong readers become confident learners, and confident learners are prepared to thrive in the classroom and beyond.

Students doing a phonetics lesson in First Grade at BT Bullock
The joy of hard work rewarded was on full display yesterday afternoon as Dr. Dossenbach informed the staff at Broadway Elementary School that they had won the school's first Head of Class Award from the Lee County Education Foundation.

Broadway's tight knit staff banded together during 2024-2025, tirelessly working to improve student performance and accelerate student growth. It paid off with a tremendous 9-point jump in the school's overall performance grade from the state. It was growth well worth celebrating and a ceremony to formally present the Head of Class Award to the school is coming soon.

From ecstatic smiles to happy tears, the educators at Broadway showed a full range of emotions, further illustrating their passion & commitment to the students and families at their school. Thank you to the Lee County Education Foundation for making moments like this possible and congratulations, Wildcats! You earned it!
