Southern Lee High School’s cadets participated in JROTC’s fourth annual Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) camp at South Carolina State University (SCSU) June 15-20th.
Southern Lee High School was one of 37 North and South Carolina’s high schools that attended the camp that provided challenging learning activities and physical challenges to 350 Cadets from across the Carolinas. The camp was appropriately named “Camp Bulldog '' after SCSU’s mascot.
Cadets were given a choice between Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Cyber Security, Computer Science, Micro Controllers, and Internet Interest to explore during camp. All instruction was provided by South Carolina State’s faculty and staff, giving cadets a true picture of education at the next level.
Participants also went on field trips to Fort Jackson, SC before the camp culminated with each STEM group presenting their final projects to their fellow cadets. Cadet/Lieutenant Colonel Lauris Petty finished 4th out of 350 Cadets from 37 High School School’s JROTC Program. She currently serves as Cavalier Battalion Commander for the 2025-2026 school year.
