With previous stops including all three of our middle schools, we’re ecstatic that Ms. Gina Guerrero’s compass has pointed her south to Southern Lee. While you may not have seen her face around Southern Lee before this year, Ms. Guerrero has spent the past 19 years working with Lee County Schools. Math is her specialty, and she taught the subject for 14 years. She’s excited about the opportunity to don her orange and blue and cheer loudly at Cavalier games. She considers "Charlie's Angels" her BFF on campus and just finished watching "His & Hers."
When thinking back to her youth, she admitted she drove with loud music but was a very cautious driver. Hearing “All the Small Things” by Blink 182 transports her back to her senior year, while “Ironic” by Alanis Morissette is the tune she knows by heart. She went to prom for three years and loved the memories she made with her friends. When quizzed about the most expensive mistake she ever made, she quipped, “Having a credit card when I was 18.” Her first job was working as a server at Bay Breeze.
After graduating from Lee Senior High School, she attended NC State for two years and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington for another two years for her undergraduate degree. In fact, when she thinks back on the qualities of her favorite teachers, she recalls that they truly cared about their students while still holding them to high standards. She received her master's degree from Queens University of Charlotte.
While she doesn’t have a pet right now, she is a true dog lover. In fact, her superhero character would be Animal Saver! If she had $5,000 to give to a charity, she’d support Lending Paws A Hand (find out more at https://lpah.org/).
She considers herself a night owl, but can't sleep in late anymore now. When eating at so many Mexican restaurants throughout Sanford, she’s quick to order TACOS! If her life were made into a movie, Sandra Bullock would play her. She also served our community for several years with the Central Carolina Jaycees before the chapter folded.
When trying to relax after a busy day, she likes to unplug. However, when she is on her phone, her go-to app is TikTok. When she sees former students around town, she’s always ready to greet them with a smile. This adventure-seeking woman puts Puerto Rico, the beach, the mountains and Europe at the top of her travel list.
Ms. Guerrero has quickly adapted to high school and the challenges that come with it. So, when you see her big smile in the halls, stop and welcome her to our school and show her what CavPride and Southern Lee hospitality are all about.
