Let’s catch up with Sal Cosimo, our newest Assistant Principal

How long have you taught at Southern Lee High School?

This is my first year here at Southern Lee. Prior to Southern, I taught 4th and 5th grade at J. Glenn Edwards, completed my administrative internship at Broadway Elementary, and served as the assistant principal at B.T. Bullock.

What college did you attend?  What made you choose it?

For my Bachelor’s degree, I attend St. John Fisher University in Rochester, NY. I was a dual major in childhood and special education.  St. John Fisher has a great teacher prep program, and I also played collegiate club ice hockey.

For my Master’s degree, I attended the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, obtaining a degree in School Administration

Also, I am currently enrolled at Liberty University, working towards a Doctorate in Educational Leadership.

 

What’s your favorite team?  Who do you support outside of the Cavaliers?

My favorite teams are the Carolina Hurricanes and Syracuse Orange.

 How do you show “Cav Pride”?

Showing up every day with a positive attitude to support our students in any way possible, no matter what the need may be.

 

What song do you hear that puts you back in your Senior year of high school?

Any Dave Matthews Band song. I graduated in 2003.

 

Do you run and hide or greet with a smile when you see your students around town?

Always greet with a smile!

 Did you go to your Prom?  ​

Yes, I was Prom Prince my junior Year and Prom King my Senior Year

 Early bird or night owl?

Early bird. I am up at 4 am every day and in the gym by 4:30.

Think back about your favorite teacher.  ​T​ell us about him/her.

My favorite teacher was my 4th grade teacher Mrs. O’Shea. She was Compassionate, understanding, and never gave up on me.

Beach or mountains? Vacation destination?  Where do you dream of being outside of work?

Mountains or a lake. My vacation Destination would be to travel to Spain.

Any pets?

My two English Bulldogs, Canoli and Bazil

What’s on your bucket list that you’ll actually accomplish?

Visit Italy. I have family there and would love to see them.

If you were a superhero, what would you be?

Superman- I call both my boys my little Superman!

If you had $5,000 to give to a charity, where would you send the money?

Ronald McDonald Foundation.  This is near and dear to my heart.  My family and I volunteer at the Durham location.

 What’s the most expensive mistake you’ve ever made?

Going to college straight out of high school, knowing I was not ready.

What advice would you give a parent who has a freshman?

Encourage them to step out of their comfort zone. Work with them to start building their resume now.

Tell us about your first job.

I worked at a children's center at a local grocery store in New York. I supervised up to 8 children at a time while their parents shopped. I believe I made $6.50 an hour.

What’s something special you do for your mental health? Relax and unwind?

Work out, play golf, and enjoy time with my family.
