Let’s catch up with Mrs. Sullivan, our new 9th grade counselor!

 

How long have you been at Southern Lee High School?

 “This is my first year at Southern but I’ve spent the last 12 years in education.”

What did you major in at College?

“East Carolina University- I majored in Special Education for my undergraduate degree and I majored in Counselor Education for my Master’s degree.”

Favorite team, Hobby, sports?

“I love football and cheering for ECU and the Carolina Panthers. I also love the beach and traveling with my family.”

“Instagram, Spotify, TikTok”

What advice would you give the parent of a freshman?

 “Let them learn! This is an important year as students are gaining independence. Encourage them to get involved and dream big!”

What’s on your bucket list that you’ll actually do?

To travel to all 50 states! So far I’ve been to 31.” 

What actor/actress would you play in a movie?

“Jennifer Garner?”

What furry friends make you smile?

“I have a dog, Ginny. She’s a sweet, rotten yellow lab mix.”

Do you run and hide or greet with a smile when you see your students around town?

“Greet with a smile.”

Last show you binge-watched?

“The Summer I Turned Pretty.”

What was your first job?

“YMCA counselor- I was an afterschool and summer camp counselor for elementary-aged students in Lee County.”

If you didn’t immediately seek a career in education, what was that spark?

“I always wanted to be a teacher; however, after spending some time in the classroom, I decided to take a different route in education and become a school counselor.”

What’s something special you do for your mental health? Relax and unwind?

 “I love to spend time with my two little girls and go to the beach. When I need some time by myself, I love going to get a pedicure or going to a coffee shop.”

If you had $5,000 to give to a charity, where would you send the money?

“Helping Hands Clinic- They provide medical support to people in need in our community.”

Favorite restaurant and/or food?

“Daniel’s in Apex. I love Italian food and could eat it every day.”

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

“I would want to time-travel”

Early bird or night owl?

“I’ve become an early bird since having my two babies.”

Is there a special charity or volunteer work that is near and dear to your heart?

“I love volunteering with the children’s programs at my church. I also volunteer at Happiness Retreat over the summer, a camp for children and adults with disabilities.”

What fictional character do you identify with most?

“Leslie Knop played by Amy Poehler from NBC’s Parks and Recreation”

Beach or mountains? Vacation destination?

“Both! My favorite vacation destinations are St. John, Boone, and the Outer Banks.”

How do you show “Cav Pride”?

“I want to show up for students. Whether it’s a game, recital, performance, etc. I want to be there for you!”
