SLHS Principal Chris Dossenbach Named Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

SANFORD – At last night’s Lee County Board of Education meeting, Dr. Chris Dossenbach, principal at Southern Lee High School, was named the district’s Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

Dossenbach is a Sanford native and product of Lee County Schools.  He began his career in education at Southern Lee first as a student teacher, then as an English teacher.  In 2011, he was named the school’s assistant principal, serving in that role until his appointment as principal in 2013. This past fall, Dossenbach was named the Lee County Schools Principal of the Year.

In announcing the appointment, Superintendent Andy Bryan said, “Chris has done an outstanding job at Southern Lee. As someone who has spent his entire educational career in Lee County as both a student and a professional educator, Chris brings a valuable perspective to his new role. I have great confidence in his ability to lead the curriculum and instruction department for our district."

As he begins the transition to his new role, Dossenbach said, “I am honored, humbled and excited to be given the opportunity to serve the district as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.  This moment is bittersweet, as Southern Lee has been my only place of employment throughout my educational career.  I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished at Southern Lee and I am confident that the best is yet to come.  I want to thank the faculty, staff, students, and parents who have supported me as principal since 2013.  I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to my administrative team of Angela Colvin, Cletis Gore, Molly Poston and Amy Salter for their encouragement, friendship and support.  Finally, I want to thank Dr. Andy Bryan and the Lee County Board of Education for giving me this opportunity.”

Dossenbach received both a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of School Administration degree from North Carolina State University and obtained his Doctorate of Education from Wingate University.

Dossenbach’s appointment as assistant superintendent is effective July 1, 2019. The search for his successor at Southern Lee will begin immediately.
