Student Transfer Requests
2019 - 2020
Student Transfer Requests are now being accepted for the 2019-2020 school year. All requests, including both employee and non-employee, must be received by the Assistant Superintendent no later than March 31, 2019. Parents will receive notification of the transfer decision by April 20, 2019. If a parent disagrees with the decision they may initiate an appeal before a panel of the Board of Education by sending a written request to the Assistant Superintendent within 10 days of receipt of the transfer decision. Appeal hearings will be scheduled prior to the beginning of the school year.
Parents who wish to transfer their student to a school other than the one to which they are assigned must complete a Lee County Schools Request for In-County Student Transfer or a Lee County Schools Request for Out-of County Student Transfer. A Behavior/Academic/Attendance Agreement must be completed for all transfer requests with the parent and student’s signature. For Out-of County Student Transfer Request the parent must obtain a release from the Board of Education in the county where the student resides. This release must accompany the transfer form and the Behavior/Academic/Attendance Agreement. The Lee County Board of Education makes all decisions regarding non-employee out of county student transfers as tuition payments may be required. Lee County School employees, who are seeking a transfer for their child/ren, must complete either an Employee Out-of County Transfer Request or an Employee In-County Transfer Request. A Behavior Agreement is required. If the employee resides outside of Lee County a release from the Board of Education in the county where the student resides is required.
For all high school students wishing to transfer they must complete the front side of the Principals' Concurrence Regarding Transfer form and submit with the transfer request and behavior agreement.
Please note that for the 2019-2020 school year Deep River Elementary, SanLee Middle School and Southern Lee High School are closed to new transfers. These schools are exceeding 90% of the building capacity. Any new tranfers to these schools will require Board of Education approval.
All required paperwork for student transfers is to be submitted to the Assistant Superintendent. The mailing address is 106 Gordon Street, Sanford, North Carolina 27330. Parents should not take the paperwork to the principal for approval. Once the forms are submitted to the Assistant Superintendent these will be forwared to the principal for the appropriate signatures and returned to the Assistant Superintendent by the principal. All transfer request forms are located on the Lee County Schools web site and the Lee County Schools Student Services Department page. Transfer forms may also be obtained at the Lee County Schools Central Office and at the individual school sites.
