AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) at Bragg Street Academy
Learning about colleges and careers is just the beginning of the strategies we use to get our students prepared for their futures. Students research colleges and careers through web searches, guest speakers, and college visits. In the AVID Elective class students calculate their GPA, set goals (long and short-term), learn the value of education, explore careers through projects, create college posters and/or banners, take interest surveys, understand college admissions tests, complete activities pertaining to the cost of living, learn about financial aid and scholarships, receive extra help on other subjects if needed and so much more!
Here at Bragg Street Academy we incorporate Cornell Notes, binders, writing strategies, reading strategies, and collaboration into our daily lessons. AVID strategies are used school wide in each of our subject areas.
We challenge our students to EXCEL with AVID.
AVID…
- Teaches skills and behaviors for academic success
- Provides intensive support with tutorials and strong student/teacher relationships
- Creates a positive peer group for students
- Develops a sense of hope for personal achievement gained through hard work and determination.
AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
