Preschool Information for Special Needs Children

What does the Preschool Program offer?
·
 Lee County School Preschool Program offers a variety of services for 3, 4, and 5 year old children with special needs. Children can be served in one or more of the following areas:

Autism

Deaf-Blindness

Developmental Delay

Hearing Impairment

Other Health Impairment

Orthopedic Impairment

Visual Impairment

Traumatic Brain Injury

Intellectual Disabilities

· Support Services are offered as needed by the nurse, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, an audiologist, a speech therapist, and a school psychologist.

·  Children are served in inclusive environments.
 

· Transportation is provided as needed for the Developmental Day children.

What settings are the children served in and where are they located?

 · Preschool classrooms for children with significant cognitive delays are available at the Developmental Day Center, which is based at Floyd L. Knight School. This center is a licensed daycare serving both typically developing and special needs children.

· Itinerant preschool services are available for children with special needs within their childcare, home-based settings, or at a service provider location.


· Home-based, school-based, or child care based speech-language therapy for individuals or small groups, as determined by needs.

What additional Program-Services are Offered?
· Screening Clinics which includes hearing, vision, health, educational, speech, and motor screenings.
· Complete speech/language evaluations to determine if therapy is needed.

. Referrals for diagnosis of impairments other than speech/language.
· Transdisciplinary Play Based Assessment and Traditional Assessments are used.

The Preschool Program Philosophy Centers Around Environmental And Experience Enrichment And Follows Normal Developmental Milestones.
