Opportunities for Students

  • take the pledge

  • January 24, 2023

    Good afternoon,

We have been notified by Finalsite, the company that hosts Connect (our mass communication system) of a data issue involving parent, student and staff directory-type information. Finalsite mistakenly made this information temporarily publicly available. For staff, this includes district email address and name. For parents and students, this includes student name, student ID number, grade level, parent email, parent phone number and mailing address. It is important to understand that to access any information in PowerSchool using the student ID number, one must have a password that was not released.

The data set did NOT include information such as credit card number, social security number, academic, special education or discipline records.

Once discovered, Finalsite immediately removed the information from public view and launched a full cyber investigation. The investigation showed that the information was accessed a minimal number of times, at least some of which was by Finalsite staff. The company further concluded that there is no sign of a threat actor infiltrating the Connect mass notification environment to cause the data to be publicly viewable.

Out of an abundance of caution, Finalsite recommends parents and staff remain vigilant regarding phone and/or email phishing scams.

Finalsite has taken full responsibility for this incident, and at this point, we believe their investigation has been appropriate and timely given the complexity of the situation. However, Lee County Schools takes your data and privacy extremely seriously, and will be following up with Finalsite to ensure they follow through on commitments to take all necessary steps to enhance their privacy protections moving forward.

We sincerely apologize for any concern this incident may have caused for our families and staff. If you have questions or need more information, please contact Morgan Delack, Finalsite Vice-President of Communications, at morgan.delack@finalsite.com.

    Andy Bryan, Ed.D.

  • Updated Mask Mandate

Lee County Schools—Updated COVID-19 Guidelines Based on recent changes to the StrongSchoolsNC toolkit that provides pandemic guidelines for schools, the Lee County Board of Education voted unanimously to make masks optional for students and staff beginning on Monday, February 21. Because of federal requirements, all students and staff are still required to wear masks on buses. Parents should keep their child at home if they are experiencing COVID-like symptoms and notify their school. Parents should have conversations with their child about whether they should wear a mask while in school. We will not utilize permission forms. Lee County Schools will no longer conduct individual contact tracing. We will use a group notification method (email, phone call, note or other appropriate forms of communication) for exposures utilizing groups such as classrooms, cafeterias, teams and buses.

Updated information can be found in the StrongSchoolsNC toolkit: https://covid19.ncdhhs.gov/media/164/open

Driver's Ed. is provided through the traditional high schools. LEC students can sign up at the school in what would be their attendance zone if they went to traditional school. There is more information on their websites about it. Contact one of them to register.
