Welcome to East Lee Middle School! My name is Emily York, and I am here to support and empower our English as a Second Language learners. I am thrilled to be a part of the East Lee Middle School community and excited to have the opportunity to work with you as an ESL assistant.

As an ESL assistant, my role revolves around creating an inclusive and nurturing learning environment for students who are developing their English language skills. Collaboration is at the heart of what I do, as I work closely with the ESL teachers and students to provide targeted assistance and guidance.

Here are some of the things I do as an ESL assistant:

1. Language Support: I provide individual and small group instruction to students, focusing on improving their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English. Through engaging activities and resources, I help our students build confidence and fluency.

2. Classroom Assistance: I collaborate with classroom teachers to modify and adapt instructional materials to meet the diverse needs of ESL students. I assist in creating a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment where everyone feels valued and supported.

3. Cultural Competence: Understanding the unique backgrounds and experiences of our ESL students is essential. I strive to foster cultural competence by celebrating diversity, promoting inclusivity, and encouraging cross-cultural understanding among students.

4. Parent Communication: Building strong partnerships with parents and guardians is crucial for student success. I maintain open lines of communication, providing updates on students' progress, and offering resources and strategies for supporting English language development at home.

I am passionate about helping students unlock their full potential and achieve academic success. I believe that every child brings a unique set of strengths and talents, and it is my goal to create a supportive and inclusive environment where they can thrive.
