SGM(R) Douglas C. Lynch
Sergeant Major (Retired) Douglas C. Lynch was born in Berkshire, New York and graduated from Basset High School in Bassett, Virginia, where he attended JROTC for three years. He joined the United States Army in 1987 as a Tactical Telecommunications Center Operator/Maintainer and attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Advance Individual Training at Fort Gordon, Georgia, and Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Sergeant Major Lynch’s deployments include Firebase Orgun-E, Afghanistan with Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group where he served as a Communications Team Chief for Operational Detachment 760 from September 2002 to January 2003, Combat Operations Base Speicher, Tikrit, Iraq, where he served as a First Sergeant for Alpha Company, 72nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion from July 2009 to July 2010, and CJ6 Sergeant Major for Operation Inherent Resolve at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait with duty in Iraq and Syria from August 2016 to September 2017.
Sergeant Major Lynch’s military and civilian education includes the Airborne and Air Assault Courses, Area NBC Officer Defense Course, Warrior Leaders Course, Advanced and Senior Noncommissioned Officer Courses, Drill Sergeant Course, Equal Opportunity Management Course, Equal Opportunity Advisors Course, First Sergeant Course, Sergeants Major Course (Class 63). Sergeant Major Lynch has an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Frederick Community College, and a Bachelors Degree in Homeland Security from Campbell University.

Sergeant Major Lynch retired from active military service after 31 years, 21 days of honorable service to the nation. He has been married to his wife, Michelle (who teaches Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, and Physical Science for Moore County's Virtual High School) since 1993 and they have three sons, Dayton, Spencer and Macallister.
In his free time, Sergeant Major Lynch likes to ride his motorcycle, hike, run, kayak, do yard work and spend time with his family. His current goal is to through hike the 2,200 mile Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine.
SGM(R) Lynch credits JROTC for giving him a successful headstart in life, and he hopes to share that same experience with every cadet in the program. The motto that he enlisted into the Army under, and which has driven his life accomplishments is, "BE, ALL THAT YOU CAN BE!"
