Alexa Hughes is the Director of Choir, Show Choir and Orchestra at Lee Senior High School in Lee County School District. This is her 7th year of teaching at LCHS, and 15th year teaching music.

Mrs. Hughes received a Bachelor of  Education degree from St. Joseph's College in New York, and  earned a Master of Music Education degree from Hofstra University. She  was born and raised on Long Island, Ny and started out by teaching private string lessons at the age of 18. After graduating in 2013 with her Masters, she made the move to North Carolina in 2015 to teach at Lee County High School.  Mrs. Hughes' primary instrument is the cello, but is proficient on violin, viola and bass as well.

Mrs. Hughes has had students go on to perform with multiple prestigious orchestras, and programs in the New York Metropolitan area. Her students have gone on to pursue their own music careers in string performance, music education and composition. In 2015 she started the Show Choir at LCHS, and has helped produce all of the musicals since 2015. She has a huge passion for musical theatre and is so happy she can combine her loves of education, music, dance and theatre. She is a cellist in the LCCO.

Ms. Hughes teaches because she wants students to not just learn music but to experience the beauty of music.  She believes that music should be a creative outlet and that students need to learn and appreciate the many different ways that it can be produced.  Her goal is to guide students towards their musical goals of excellence, and intelligence by inspiring their creativity and by having fun!

She has been married since 2013 to her husband Justin, and they have two sons, Oliver (3) and Finn (newborn). She enjoys Social Media scrolling, hanging out under her pergola at home, photography, painting, listening to musicals and binge watching tv shows.

“I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music."
