    The following items will be helpful before beginning the application process:
     
    • A personal email address
    • At least three references including current or most recent supervisor.  Please provide name, title and contact information (phone number and email).

    • A currrent resume available to be uploaded into the system
    • If required for position applying for have unofficial transcripts available to upload into the system.

    Licensed: Select the 'Licensed' link if you wish to see a listing of vacancies which require a professional educator's license. Examples of Licensed positions include: Teacher, Principal, Assistant Principal, Superintendent, Media Coordinator, Counselor, School Social Worker, Workforce Development Instructor, and Speech Language Pathologist. Note: Currently holding a NC educator's license is NOT a prerequisite for applying for a licensed position.  However, you must be able to obtain/hold a North Carolina teaching license.

    Lateral Entry License Information (pdf)
    Lateral entry teachers are employed when the pool of available licensed teachers is exhausted. Lateral entry teachers are therefore most likely to be employed late in the summer and in content areas where there is a shortage of teachers. The shortage of teachers is greatest, particularly, in the areas of math, science, special education, and middle grades.

    Classified: Select the 'Classified' link if you wish to see a listing of vacancies which do not require a North Carolina educator's license. Examples of classified positions include: Instructional (Teacher) Assistant/ Bus Driver, Office Support, Tutor, Custodian/Bus Driver, Food Service Manager or Assistant, Maintenance Supervisor or Worker.


    Bus Driver Application: Select the  generic 'Bus Driver' vacancy posting if you are applying for dual employment position, i.e. instructional assistant/bus driver, custodian/bus driver, child nutrition assistant/bus driver which also required you to complete a bus driver application.


    Substitutes:

    To be considered for substitute employment the following documentation must be completed:

    1. Completed/updated on-line application: visit the Lee County
    Schools website (www.lee.k12.nc.us), click employment, click
    Apply Here and complete the generic application for substitutes.

    2. Complete and return to the Human Resources Office,the
    Authority for Release of Information Form.

    3. Health Form: A new form is not needed if you have a current one
    on file with Lee County Schools and have had no break in service.

    4. Reference Form: Three (3) reference forms should be completed
    by 3 different individuals, someone other than family or friends.
    The reference form is a fillable form your references may complete,
    save the form on their computer, and email the reference form to
    mriggins@lee.k12.nc.us. Another option is to send the form to
    those whom you list as references with a stamped addressed
    envelope to be returned to Human Resources Department, Lee
    County Schools, PO Box 1010, Sanford NC 2733.

    5. Transcripts


    We accept on-line applications for substitutes throughout the year. Please complete the generic on-line application for substitutes. The Human Resources Office evaluates experience/application. Preference given to college graduates with prior teaching experience, teacher training, or other special qualifications in subject area. If you are selected, you will be sent an invitation letter to attend a group orientation. After attending orientation, your name will be placed on a list which will go before the next Board of Education meeting for approval of employment. After the board approves the substitute list, you will be placed on the master substitute list and you will be able to start substituting in Lee County.

    The Interview and Employment Process

    When vacancies occur, interviews are arranged with selected applicants holding proper qualifications. The principal/hiring administrator screens applications and selects eligible candidates for interview. Documents you will need to bring with you to your interview for licensed positions are signed application, transcripts, test scores, copy of licensure, and completed Authority For Release Form. After interviewing these candidates, the principal/hiring administrator and his/her interview team makes a recommendation to the Assistant Superintendent Human Resources. Offers of employment are extended from Human Resources.
