Mrs. Emily Tyler

Welcome to the page of Mrs. Emily Tyler. A graduate from an alternative high school in Albuquerque, NM, I believe strongly that alternative high schools give students a strong chance at graduation when they might otherwise not have the opportunity to graduate high school. I received a B.S. in Communications with an emphasis in web technology in 2012 and went on to get my M.A. in secondary English education in 2020. I was freelance writer from 2012 to 2019, focusing on technical writing and health and fitness articles for internet based companies. I published blogs and articles as a ghost writer and wrote on average 30,000 words a week.

I decided that I wanted to spread my love for writing to other people and attended school to become a teacher. It was there that I learned I had dyslexia and ADHD. It made a lot of my struggles as a writer make a whole lot more sense. I had to run two editing programs before I submitted my things to an editor for example. It also made me more aware of some of the struggles that I had during high school that made me attend the alternative high school. Having to deal with these two learning issues makes me aware of the ways unique learners need to compensate to fulfil their learning needs. Not everyone learns the same way, I know I certainly learn in my own style. That is one of the reasons that I love the flexibility of the alternative school setting. It allows each student the ability to explore their learning style and have their learning needs fulfilled so they can see the best ways for them to learn and grow.
