Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Travis Zira
I attended East Carolina University where I got both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Secondary Education, focusing on Social Studies. I have had a deep love of history ever since I was a kid and always knew (even after some career changes) that deep down I wanted to be a teacher. My historical areas of focus are traditionally American History and American Government. This will be my fourth year teaching here at LCHS and even though it has been a chaotic transition back to in-person learning, I am excited to see how we can all adapt and grow in this learning environment!
I like to take a blended approach to learning, combining traditional direct instruction with the reinforcement of hands-on and interactive learning. I encorporate technology and student-driven inquiry/research heavily into my teaching and enjoy discussing historical topics with students. I try to have all of my students leave my class having learned about at least one topic in history that they continue to research and foster interest in. My hope is that by finding just one event, person, or time period that interests them, it will drive their continued exploration of Social Studies and help to make them informed citizens.
I look forward to helping your student succeed and grow as a learner in the coming school year!
