My name is John Mathis and I teach Math 3, Math 4, Discrete Math for Computer Science and Precalculus.  I have taught for 15 years and this will be my sixth year at Lee Senior.  I am looking forward to a wonderful year.

After 12 years as a Systems Analyst and 6 years as a Baptist pastor, I began working toward teacher certification in Mathematics.  Over the last 15 years, I have taught at 3 high schools and 2 middle schools across the state of North Carolina. My wife works for Alliance Health in Morrisville.  We enjoy college football, travel, and Drum Corps.  We have been married 17 years and have two wonderful cats, Abby and Gabby. 

I have always enjoyed Math and my students like to tell me I was meant to be a Math teacher because my name has math in it.   I understand that many students do not enjoy math as much as I do.  I know it can be a challenging subject for many students.  It is my hope that you will see math as a way to learn how to analyze and solve problems in the future.  I challenge you to not ask, "When am I ever going to use this?" and instead ask, "How can I use this?"

I am looking forward to a great year with an awesome group of students!  Welcome to my class. I know we are going to have a great year!
