• Essential 7           Collaboration as a Basis for Instruction

    Inquiry and collaboration are used as a basis for instruction in the AVID Elective class and to promote critical thinking.

    • Administrators had modeled WICOR strategies in monthly professional develop.
    • Our AVID elective classroom utilizes Philosophical Chairs and Socratic Seminars using My AVID and AVID Weekly lessons to question and have students engage in thoughtful discussions.
    • Many core classes have embraced philosophical chairs and socratic seminars to engage students in high levels of questioning and thinking.
    • Students are taught Cornell Note taking in AVID elective and how to utilize the notes for studying and developing questions.
    • Students collaborate purposefully to develop thinking and listening skills. This is done face-to-face and digitally.
    • Study groups are utilized for tutorials. Students assist each other through questioning and their notes.
